Jobless men bring an old friend to life

27 June 2008

Good things can come from misfortune, and local MP Roger Price will on Tuesday [1 July] personally congratulate Wesley Mission Work for the Dole participants who have helped restore the popular Blacktown Salvos’ Store and obtained worthwhile employment qualifications in the process.

The Salvos’ Store had been suffering from years of wear and tear and was severely damaged by hailstorm and cyclonic winds last summer.

Participants in Wesley Mission’s Work for the Dole program who have been working to repair the store will receive graduation certificates from Mr Price and Wesley Uniting Employment Operations Manager Chris England for the skills they have gained on the job.

Some participants have turned their lives around through further personal achievements gained through the program. Three have obtained full-time employment, three are working part-time and two are attending TAFE or literacy and numeracy classes.

The revamped Salvos’ Store is due to re-open in August.
