State-wide sausage sizzle raises more than $18,000 for suicide prevention
11 December 2007
Bunnings Warehouse stores around NSW raised $18,800 for Wesley Mission’s LifeForce Suicide Prevention Program on Friday November 2.
62 stores across the State cooked up a storm to raise funds for and awareness of Wesley LifeForce, which has to date equipped more than 7000 people to respond to others in a crisis.
Wesley Mission Superintendent Rev Keith Garner was pleased at the success of the event.
“This is a wonderful example of businesses, local communities and organisations like Wesley Mission working together to help those in need,” he said. “I offer my sincere thanks to Bunnings and to each person who helped.”
Wesley LifeForce manager Kirsty D’Bais was also thrilled with the result.
“I am extremely grateful to Bunnings for their generous support of Wesley LifeForce,” she said. “I strongly believe that education is the key to reducing Australia’s high suicide rate, and the funds Bunnings has helped us raise will do much to help us empower Australians to address this crucial issue. More Australians die each year through suicide than on our roads, and this won’t change until we start talking openly and honestly about this tragic situation.”
Bunnings State Activities Coordinator Alistair Anderson said Bunnings was proud to partner with Wesley Mission in tackling suicide prevention across NSW.
“Bunnings has always been committed to giving back to the local communities that support us. Wesley LifeForce is an invaluable resource for those communities, and we are delighted to be able to help them in any way we can,” Mr Anderson said.
