Wesley Mission care work aided by Drake International sponsorship
12 June 2007
Drake International, a valued partner of Wesley Mission, this year assumed the responsibility of sponsoring the Mission’s Volunteer Award for 2007, helping to secure much-needed support for caring for people suffering hardship.
The award is given to an individual who has extensively given his or her time to assist the work of Wesley Mission.
This year’s award went to Bruce Gordon, who has made an extraordinary contribution to the counselling services of Wesley Mission through his volunteer work as a telephone counsellor and trainer at Lifeline Sydney over the past 20 years. It is estimated that Bruce has so far given 2500 hours to telephone counselling, taking at least 3000 calls.
Drake International, which donates time to help Wesley Rehabilitation Services by training and counselling clients who have been rehabilitated from drug and alcohol addictions, fully understands the importance of securing corporate partnerships of integrity that would expand care programs for those suffering hardship.
Drake International Recruitment Consultant Vicki Neil made the award to Bruce Gordon at Wesley Mission’s annual Spirit of Mission dinner on 31 May to the applause of the Mission’s major donors.
“Drake International has been a corporate sponsor of Wesley Mission for several years, and we’re honoured to be associated with such an inspirational organisation that truly makes a difference in our community,” Ms Neil said.
“It is incredibly humbling to see the tremendous frontline support given by Wesley Mission to so many members of society, in particular the homeless and the addicted.
“Drake International has assisted by holding seminars on resume writing and job finding skills at Wesley Rehabilitation Services, and we are there on the other side as well to assist rehabilitated individuals make the transition back into the workforce that little bit easier.
“We have also immensely enjoyed being a part of Wesley Rehabilitation services by holding recreational afternoons of BBQ and sports, where everyone enjoyed the chance to get involved and let their hair down,” Ms Neil said.
