2SM's Grant Goldman honoured by Wesley Mission

06 June 2007

Grant Goldman, the popular presenter of Radio 2SM’s Breakfast Show, has been honoured with Wesley Mission Sydney’s Corporate Citizenship Award for exemplary awareness of social responsibility in his work at 2SM.

Wesley Mission paid tribute to Grant Goldman for the sincerity and depth of his interest in community and social issues, seen in his professional reportage of Mission activities.

Wesley Mission projects such as the LifeForce Memorial Service for those affected by suicide, the Easter Mission and work relating to homelessness, youth problems and drug and alcohol abuse have received first-rate coverage on radio 2SM.

Grant’s initiative in raising public awareness and knowledge of these issues was praised by Wesley Mission.

Accepting the award at the Mission’s annual Spirit of Mission dinner last Thursday [31 May] Grant told the story of how he found his father, a devout Christian, reading the Bible with deep concentration while very ill in hospital with cancer. “You should know the Bible back to front by now,” the young Goldman had teased his dad, and his father had replied with a twinkle, “I’m cramming for the Finals”.

The passion that drives Wesley Mission, despite limited resources, to care for those suffering hardship was exemplified, Grant said, by the story of a South African paralympian he had interviewed. The athlete was competing in the pentathlon and was ahead of the rest of the field when disaster struck during the javelin throw: his artificial leg snapped off. The champion sat down, picked up his leg and waved it in the air, strapped it back on and continued the throw – and he won.
