Annual Dinner 2008

Opening Doors

The Wesley Mission Annual Dinner themed “Opening Doors,” was an enormous success on many fronts. The event, held on 23rd July at the Tea Room in the Queen Victoria Building Sydney, was all about opening doors to new friends, new opportunities and new ways of thinking. We provided an occasion for our new and existing supporters to share in the work that we do by opening doors for those in our community who are vulnerable and marginalised.

The purpose of the dinner was to engage, inspire and educate our corporate supporters, donors and those within the community that work alongside us on the variety of services we provide to those who are in need. Throughout the evening, we highlighted three key areas of our work at Wesley Mission. These were Homeless Services, Family and Community Services and Counselling Services. In an atmosphere of community and common vision for positive change, the attendees were presented with information about the crises many people in Sydney face on a daily basis. Those people in attendance were then asked to join Wesley Mission in providing hope for those in need by opening doors.

The evening was hosted by our Superintendent Keith Garner and MC was Keith Suter. It was with great pleasure that we were able to have the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP, Federal Minister for Housing and the Status of Women, and ABC Managing Director Mark Scott as our very special guests. We acknowledge the support of our major sponsor DLA Phillips Fox and corporate sponsor, Nexia Court & Co.

We are delighted to announce that over the course of the evening and with donations given before the event, we were able to raise in excess of $40,000 for the ongoing work of Wesley Mission. We believe that this is just a start and in years to come, we will be able to build this event to something even greater. Wesley Mission is committed to making a real and lasting difference in the community, and through this event, we will be able to open more doors of hope for those that we serve.
